The genesis of Tagum’s Website
(How it came into existence?)

Tagum City has a static website hosted by a free host at http://tagum.50webs.com, maintained by the IT personnel which contained the basic profile of Tagum City.  The incumbent City Mayor has not seen the site yet nor knew about it till a friend told him, who eventually asked him to improve and update its contents.  Relying on the Executive’s wisdom and open-mindedness, the Mayor then decided to create a new website fit for the booming City of Tagum.

On the 12th of July 2006, City Mayor Rey T. Uy issued Memorandum No. 91, S-2006 informing all heads of offices that a task force has to be created to develop a website for the City Government of Tagum. Out of nowhere, from her background and expertise, it was Ms. Maria Wilma A. Jubilo who was hired to conceptualize the website design and contents.

To establish a good foundation of the Taskforce Website, a formal planning was successfully conducted in Lanikai Beach Resort in Madaum, Tagum City on July 19-20, 2006 which was enthusiastically participated by all task force members from different departments and line offices.

The planning started with a review on the History of Computer and the existence of the internet, presented the Citizen-Centric Website Development guide of the National Computer Center, and showed the five stages of e-government to inform the participants that we really have to start first with static website before proceeding to the next stages until it will become dynamic.

The task force members’ primordial role is to gather data and supply relevant information available for submission to the technical staff for webpage layout and design.

The City Government, through a supplemental budget approved by the City Council headed by Vice Mayor Allan L. Rellon, approved the additional amount of Three Hundred Thousand Pesos (P300,000.00) to allocate fund for the website development project. Even if situated with budget constraint, the hardware and software were still purchased which amounted to (Five Hundred Fifty Three Thousand Three Hundred Ninety Five Pesos (P553,395.00) for further development of the website.

The technical staff registered online the domain name “www.tagumcity.gov.ph” at the ASTI of DOST which was approved last October 2006. To really get in touch and get connected, the City Government of Tagum chose Philcom as the STATIC IP provider up to this time. The server was delivered towards the end of December 2006 and was installed on the last week of January with a slight delay for some reasons that we were looking for a safe place to be converted as Server Room.

On April 2. 2007 the URL: http://www.tagumcity.gov.ph was first seen on the world wide web. Static data and basic profile of Tagum City were artistically posted. Some days later, the downloadable forms, guestbook and search engines were already part of the website.

For the year 2007, another Three Hundred Thousand Pesos (P300,000.00) was allocated for the project. It includes trainings, supplies and hosting rentals for the regular upgrade of our website that will serve as the City’s show window to the world.

As we look forward on the good intentions that we have established today, the rising Tagum City will surely acquire such global recognition as we have placed our booming City in the world wide web.

Much still have to be accomplished, but in the name of public service, we do our part in making legacy to the next generation of Tagum City.
