Tagum Mayor Uy speaks at LGU Corporate Power Forum in Manila

City of Tagum Chief Executive
Mayor Rey T. Uy was invited by the Department of Interior and Local Government
(DILG) and the Local Governance Support Program for Local Economic Development
(LGSP-LED) as one of the resource speakers at the Forum on Local Government
Unit (LGU) Corporate Powers held at Local Government Academy, Conference Room,
Agustin Building, Ortigas Center, Manila last August 20, 2010.
Mayor Uy speaks for Local Government
Unit Trailblazing Initiatives on Corporate Management with his main Topic –
“Corporate Management on Local Economic Enterprises: The Tagum Experience” with
a more than twenty (20) minutes power point presentation depicting Tagum City
Economic Enterprises.
The forum aims to solicit
experts’ views on the definition and scope of LGU Corporate Powers, Identity
Policy Issues facilitating LGUs in exercising corporate powers, and identify
various options that will help LGUs harness their corporate powers.
Mayor Uy imparted the Best
Practice of the City of Tagum focuses especially its sustainable Economic
Enterprises such as the Public Market, Livestock Center, Overland Transport
Integrated Terminal, Cultural and Trade Center, Slaughterhouse and Public
Market have caught the eyes of forum participants and LGUs as far as the
Ilocandia Area, and has since been a favorite site for Study by Government
Officials and Functionaries all throughout the country.
Meanwhile, the dynamic leadership
and impressive sense of commitment to public service of Mayor Uy has gained the
City various honors, awards and recognitions. On August 16, 2010, Regional
Director Quirino M. Libunao of DILG XI conferred the Award of Excellence to Mayor
Uy for his “exemplary effort on Local Revenue Generation System making the City
less dependent in the National Government Internal Revenue Allotment – a best
practice innovation for the Davao Region” and on August 20, 2010, DILG Bureau
of Local Government Development Director Manuel Q. Gotis, CESO III awards the
Certificate of Recognition to Mayor Uy for being the speaker of the Forum on
LGU Corporate Powers held at Local Government Academy, Conference Room, Agustin
Building, Ortigas Center, Manila.
Lastly, City of Tagum was also cited as one of the few LGUs
in the country with a new Revenue Code enacted in 2007. Other LGUs are still
using the 70’s, the 80’s and 90’s Tax Code.
