Tagum City Mentors Cook Nutritious Food, Won!

Aside from being national winners in the academic and co-curricular competitions, Tagum City teachers boost themselves as culinary enthusiasts who can prepare dishes which are palatable and nutritious and can be at par with those from other regions as Teachers Nora J. Reyla and Ali T. Bermudez from Apokon Elementary School, Tagum City joined the Regional Winners for Keso de Gallo with their entry MOSACABLOS CON KESO SHAO MAI coined from the ingredients Moringga (Malunggay, Saluyot, Carrots & Banana Blossom). A joint project of ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. and Kraft Foods, Inc. and in connection with the celebration of Nutrition Month, it aims to promote healthy ways of preparing local dishes of the regions. Other regional winners include Sawata Ernandcor CES, San Isidro. Davao del Norte, Peñaplata CES, Island Garden City of Samal, Sto.Tomas CES of Davao del Norte and Wireless ES of Davao City. They will be joined by winners from other regions and will comprise the elite 100 best dishes around the country. They were awarded with a complete ETV set worth P55,000.00 which includes Thirty One (31) double – disc volume of DVD materials for Science (Sine’eskwela), Mathematics (Mathtinik), Values Education (Hirayamanawari),History (Bayani), and English (Epol/Apple), One (1) 21-inch Color Television Set and One (1) DVD Player. A progress report on schedule of film viewing, attendance of the pupil viewers and documentation will be submitted for evaluation. Winners were able to surmount the delicate taste and assessment of the Screening Committee as they hurdle through the criteria: Originality and Innovative Use of Local Ingredients – 25%; Effective Use of Eden Cheese – 25%; Nutritional Value – 25% and Ease of Preparation and Appearance – 25%. Dish creators were directed to demonstrate the preparation and exhibit the same in white plate incorporating the local theme. It was then taken pictures for a big picture mosaic in a tarpaulin just like the one done for the late beloved President Cory Aquino. An Awarding Ceremony and ETV Orientation was held at Teodoro Palma Gil ES, Quirino Ave., Davao City and attended by Division Superintendents Nenita E. Lumaad (Tagum City); Aurora B.Cubero (Davao del Norte), Ricolito de los Reyes (IGACOS) and Helen Paguican (Davao City) represented by ASDS Antonia Diaz and Regional Supervisor Genelito Atillo .They were joined by Ms. Suzette Catalla Donor Specialist E Media Program and Marivic Trinidad both from ABS – CBN Foundation, Inc. Also around to grace the occasion were the Principals and teachers of the winning schools, Mr. Ireneo Generalao of Apokon ES and Tagum City Division Coordinator Darwin F. Suyat.
