Tagum City Gays give Skills Training & Education

Tagum City Gays Association, Inc. (TCGAI) a long established gay civic organization and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registered is extending its community service to mothers and adults of Barangay Madaum under Project: G.I.V.E or (Gays In Giving Education). This is in coordination with the City Government of Tagum, Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Tagum City and Alternative Learning System (ALS).

TCGAI, a Service Provider of ALS is conducting skills training every Tuesday on Cosmetology to mothers who are waiting for their children at Madaum Elementary School and adults who have not completed their intermediate and secondary education in the formal system of learning. On their 4th week now, they are taught on personal hygiene and sanitation, grooming, men’s and ladies haircut, make-up, manicure, pedicure, firming, dye, eyebrow plucking, foot spa and basic personality development.

It is under the Literacy Service Contracting Scheme (LSCS) and module based skills development which started last July and will run until October of this year. It is simultaneously conducted with the Food Trades at Herculina Edig ES, Canocotan, Tagum City where the learners are taught with culinary arts and food presentation.

Teacher Facilitators are TCGAI officers Venny Tubilla and Raul Bea Jimenez both from Venny Salon, one of the most popular fashion and beauty centers in Tagum City. The learners group headed by their President, Mrs. Josephine Biol is very enthusiastic and eager to learn and finish the short term alternative course.

City of Tagum Tourism Council Chairperson Alma L. Uy even commended the gays during the press briefings for the very successful Binuhat Festival 2010 in their extra effort and commitment to bring meaningful change to the simple lives of the common Tagumeños. Schools Division Superintendent Nenita E. Lumaad, Division ALS Coordinator Leila L. Ibita, Madaum ES Principal I Siony Y.German, Brgy.Capt. Ruthman Ladia & TCGAI President Darwin F. Suyat are one in advocating people’s participation and empowering them to become productive and role models to those who were denied access to education or worst, not given chance to show their worth.
