Tagum City, the capital of the province of Davao del Norte was officially created into a component city on March 7, 1998. Situated 55 kilometers north of Davao City, it is one of the fastest growing cities in Region XI. It has a total land area of 19,580 hectares. A midnight operation by Tagum City's Bantay Dagat forces led to the confiscation of materials used for illegal fishing in Sitio Garinan, Barangay Madaum last January 24, 2012 but the team was not able to arrest the estimated 13 fishermen's as they escaped immediately soon before the city's anti-illegal fishing team arrived.

City of Tagum, Davao del Norte - With the intensified move to beef up the delivery of brand new school furniture borne out of the “Care for School Chairs Program” of the Local Government of Tagum, three different schools in the Municipality of New Corella and Asuncion town receive brand new school chairs this week.
