Tagum City, the capital of the province of Davao del Norte was officially created into a component city on March 7, 1998. Situated 55 kilometers north of Davao City, it is one of the fastest growing cities in Region XI. It has a total land area of 19,580 hectares. In a study conducted by the Asian Institute of Management, Tagum was ranked among the 20 most viable component cities to do business in the country.

Tagum City, Best Preparedness Disaster in Region XI
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region XI has chosen Tagum City as the BEST PREPAREDNESS DISASTER (Component City Category) among the four cities: Tagum City, Panabo City, Island Garden City of Samal and Digos City.
BSP Conducts 3-day Basic Training Course
The 3-day Basic Training Course for Leaders of Adults formally opened last August 8, 2008 spearheaded by the Boy scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Davao del Norte Council in La Filipina National High School and culminated last August 10 attended by more than 80 scouters and local officials coming from the different offices from the Province, Cities, Municipalities, Barangays, Sangguniang Kabataan members and officials, and some from the Religious Sector.

Mr. Anwar E. Maadel, head of Tagum City Literacy Secretariat, confirmed that Tagum City is one of the top 5 of the 2008 National Literacy Awardees.

For the past few years, under the watch of law enforcers, Tagum City’s peace and order situation is consistently under control. To maintain and sustain the peaceful climate of Tagum, City Mayor Rey T. Uy eyes to purchase a K-9 Dog to keep watch over explosive chemicals that may destroy the tranquility being enjoyed by Tagumeños. This 2 yr-old and well-trained K-9 dog is expert in sniffing explosive chemicals to be sold in a pot cash of only P50,000.00.
