EDUCATION/LITERACY
Project R.E.Y. (Reading Empowers Youth)

Establishment of reading clinics in recipient schools to reduce the number of Children-at-Risk (non-readers) in Tagum City.

The mayor personally observed the deficiencies of school children, particularly in reading & comprehension, in public schools encouraging him to seriously and sustainably provide interventions through Project REY which is launched in cooperation with the Department of Education. His goal is to secure the future of the children in Tagum City by ensuring quality education through the provision of highly accessible and free remedial classes to target beneficiaries

The Mayor established the promotion of non-formal education inside the public market by providing on-site school for the children who are unwantedly exposed in vending, cleaning and other activities inside the public market.

This is a brainchild project of the mayor as he personally observed this neglected problem for many years now. As the father of the city, he goes out of his way to ensure the future of these neglected children.

RTU Musical Instrument Workshop
The mayor believes that talent in music and musical instruments can help uplift the quality of life for our youth.

To prepare them in such opportunity, he pioneered the implementation of free RTU Musical Instrument Workshop to students 8-18 years of age to make them proficient in playing the piano, trombone, saxophone, trumpet, guitar and drums.

Because the Honorable Mayor greatly recognizes young people's talents and supports their inclinations and love for music, this is his way of providing the youth with an avenue to have a better and brighter future, steering them away from destructive activities such as substance abuse and violence and at the same time bringing creative pathways for gainful employment providing them with the opportunity to be economically productive.

RESETTLEMENT
One of the Uy Adminis-tration's major accomplishments is the successful implementation of its resettlement program in line with the mayor's heartfelt desire to provide permanent land tenure for those families residing in hazardous areas and illegally occupying private and government lands.

Mayor Uy initiated the land banking strategy for the acquisition of land viable for resettlement. He launched the “Bahay at Buhay” program with the help of TESDA to mainstream skills training cum production on basic masonry, hollow block making and carpentry in further support to the relocated families.
School Sites, Road Lots and Open Spaces Titling
Giving priority concern to secure full ownership of public school sites and road lots and open spaces.
It takes an executive like Mayor Rey T. Uy to give so much concern and emphasis on the titling of donated road lots, openspaces and school sites which have been neglected for a long period of time by many local government units in the country as well as the Department of Education. This is because the mayor is a visionary person who looks after the future of the city and its constituents.

INDIGENOUS PEOPLE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

The mayor strongly advocates for the preservation of culture
of indigenous people as part of sustainable nation-building.

He initiated a comprehensive IP development program, from organizing to economic empowerment, by providing access to livelihood and skills development programs. Full support is given by him to mainstream IP culture in several tourism activities and promotion of the city.

MADRASAH EDUCATION
Full support is given by the mayor to intensify Madrasah education for the muslim sector. This is a program promoting community-based classes aimed to educate all Muslims through the inculcation of the Islamic philosophy of education for peace, progress and development of the society as a whole.
