Historical Background:
During the American occupation in the Philippines, the residents here were natives. They survived by means of fishing and planting different crops. During that time, this place was not included in the recorded list of all barangays of the American Government.
One day there was a team of Americans who were conducting a survey of all barangays in this municipality. The Americans saw one native fishing at the other side of the rsiver. They asked the native about the name of the place. Thinking that what the Americans have asked was about the river, the native answered “Madallum” which means deep. From that time on this place was recorded as Madaum. Barangay was created during the Pre-war through the Declaration basis.
