Project EMBRACE

Elected as City Councilor last 2010, idol boyet as he is popularly known believe that being a legislator doesn’t just mean attending legislative sessions and voting on proposed laws, Councilor Boyet Gementiza believes that he should also spend large amounts of time assisting constituents, studying issues and concerns especially under his Committee Chairmanship on Trade, Commerce and Industry. He was the Project E.M.B.R.A.C.E. (Enriching and Mobilizing Barangay for Resource Access and Consumer Empowerment) Forum and Orientation Seminar, series conferences, fora and trainings for the welfare of the consumers, bringing these services to Barangay level and even to smaller units such as the puroks as mandated by RA 7394.These programs WERE jointly organized by the Department of Trade and Industry with the partnership of the City Government of Tagum through the Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry chaired by Idol Boyet , the consumer group Konsumo Tagum, Inc. and with the cooperation with the various Barangay units in the entire City of Tagum. The over-all goal of these massive Consumer Education campaign is to ensure that every Tagumeños is aware of her basic rights and responsibilities under the law.

The seminar also provided a wide range of issues concerning illegal recruitment, inferior or defective products, fake drugs, warranties and extended warranties, deceptive, unfair and unconscionable sale, and electricity supply problems. It will also give the opportunity to network with other government agencies and private organizations, which can lend helping hands in protecting our consumers against dishonest entrepreneurs.

Form part of project embrace is the topic that discusses Consumer Action on Sustainable and Healthy Lifestyle (Cash-L) which provides the participants information on the present situation on our environment, the reality on what the consumer lifestyle decisions consciously or unconsciously affecting and contributing harm to Mother Nature that causes global warming. Trough this massive consumer education program implants consciousness to consumers about the threats of climate change.

These valuable seminar/fora was already served to the barangay functionaries of the 23 barangays of this City attended by barangay officials, functionaries, Purok Leaders and even select business owners.

OPERATION TULI

Owing to religious beliefs, concerns about hygiene, or cultural or social reasons, men have been circumcised through the ages since the time of the pharaohs, and taking this great opportunity to welcome the “uninitiated” to the world of manhood.

Circumcision or “pagtutuli” is considered by an overwhelming number of Filipinos as an “obligatory rite of passage to manhood.”

The word “circumcision” comes from Latin circum (meaning “around) and caedere (meaning “to cut”).
Headed by the Honorable member of the Sanggunian, Hon. Boyet T. Gementiza, or “Idol” Boyet as Tagumeños fondly called him, the project was switched to “High Gear” last summer bringing the services to 12 chosen Puroks in different Barangays of this City. The history repeats itself again when 2011 seven (7) barangays last were served and in 2012 there were ten (10) with a total of 1, 305 children were served.
With the assistance of volunteer nurses and doctors who conducted the circumcision procedures which led to its accomplishment.

Fresh from the success of the 2011 and 2012 Operation Tuli, Hon. Boyet Gementiza organized and staged this annual program as part of its social responsibility to Tagumeños.

The activity aims to continue a socially relevant project, which directly benefit residents of barangays around Tagum City and to be able to provide a venue for our underprivileged male children to avail of this basic need specially those who are located in the remote areas which has limited access to medical facilities.

“Idol Boyet” provided the free medicines as well as shouldering the circumcision fee in behalf of the beneficiaries through its SRA-MBN allocation.

Honorable Boyet T. Gementiza believes that there is no greater humility than to have the opportunity to help the less fortunate and the marginalized sector of our society.

MAGIC SUGAR ORDINANCE

IDOL BOYET once again through its legislative research and as the chairman of the committee on trade commerce and industry authored the approved magic sugar ordinance or the city ordinance No. 513, s-2011 the Ordinance banning the use, sale and distribution of the sugar substitute sodium cyclamate or neotogen also known as “magic sugar” among food and business establishments, food vendors, local business outlets, business establishments, food vendors in tagum city and for other purposes.

Article 20 of Republic Act No. 7394, otherwise known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines, mandates that the State shall ensure safe and good quality foods, drugs, cosmetics and devices and regulate their production, sale distribution and advertisement to protect the health of the consumers. In the interest of consumer protection and welfare as well as public health and safety, then BFAD now FDA has reiterated that the use of Neotogen or “magic sugar” as food sweetener is prohibited due to evidence of its carcinogenicity in animals.

With Idol BOyet’s Concern that the local government should protect its constituents from deceitful advertising and from the dangers of hazardous food products, additives, or substitutes such as the sugar substitute, “magic sugar”. Hence, he fought for this ordinance in the city council and was victorious.

EDUCATION – I believe that education is much more than what our children learn in the classroom. I believe that education starts at home, as a father myself it is important to help them show a good strong support into the learning environment so that they have a personal approach to learning. The yearly increase in tuition fees in all government and private colleges and the soaring high prices of the basic commodities is also one of the factor why many of our children belonging to marginalized sector of Our family had difficulties going to school, believing the importance of education, I signified my interest in supporting the existing scholarships provided by the LGU-Tagum. My family had already an on-going scholarship program-the Atty. Butch Gementiza Foundation which caters students in our area, barangay apokon. I am planning to provide scholarships out from my budget coming from Vice Mayor’s Office.

HEALTH – inspired by this old passage, “Health is Wealth”. I had already been committed to my constituents providing basic health services such as Operation Tuli serving 23 barangays in the past; this will be served to our marginalized sector of our community every summer of each year and I will always extend my support to health services provided by our City Health Office.

SPORTS – Sport as a universal language and can be a powerful tool to promote peace, tolerance and understanding by bringing people together across boundaries, cultures and religions. Its intrinsic values such as teamwork, fairness, discipline, respect for the opponent and the rules of the game are understood all over the world and can be harnessed in the advancement of solidarity, social cohesion and peaceful coexistence which if properly instigated will bring camaraderie and sportsmanship to our youth and youth alike. In that way, I am helping them to use their time and talents in valuable way.

As a Sports minded person myself, I have to help in maintaining and provide the necessary training and equipment to encourage our them to engage in sports, I also am into strengthening the Liga ng mga Barangays.
